    Signal generator using 555 timer

My scope arrived today. It looks clean enough and I'm able to get a nice strong crisp trace that runs perfectly along one of the division marker lines so that's good. It was a wide fat trace at first but just needed the focus adjusted a wee bit. Just need my probes to arrive now :) I got x10...

    Best solder to use

I started with a real cheap kit, everything for £15 or something like that. A junk iron, lead free solder and a dod of supposed flux! I almost gave up before I started! I watched a couple YouTube videos and worked out why I couldn't get the solder to work. I got a better iron, decent solder and...

    Signal generator using 555 timer

Its a second hand Tenma scope. Just a cheapo for now till I learn how to use one then I'll get a decent one. I got it from eBay so it may well be a banger or maybe not. If its a scrapper I'll have fun with the insides. Once I get it a couple of the guys here have offered to help if I need it so...

    Signal generator using 555 timer

I built my first signal generator on my breadboard tonight. Its very VERY simple but it'll do for now for something to hook my scope up to when it comes. I can hook a potentiometer into it too so it'll be fun to watch it working and how it changes. I have another 1 from eBay coming that does a...

Why I don't like wall warts

Cool. I've just been using my bench PSU to run the BC. The caps discharging after i cut the power caught me for a second but then I caught on. Thought I'd broke another meter :) Just been watching what's happening with the Volts and Amps as I change both outputs. I've been using 2 meters,1 for...

    3D Printer Thread

I'm getting 1 from Santa! :) I know this could be answered as "how long is a bit of string" but.......I am brand new into hobby electronics, 0 into 3D printers but looking to change that! Could one of you point me where to look for my first 3D printer. I'd be looking to make project boxes and...

    Oscilloscope probe question.

The other 1 went for £53! I think the same person who was after the one I got went after the other 1 too! I think they lost out twice. Just hope the scopes worth it :) To be honest so long as it works I'll tune it up best I can with some expert knowledge on offer from the guys here. It'll be...

Just shows how long these things can last. It'll be awesome if its brought back to life. I had a look inside mine last week. I knew what a few bits were and their purpose but most of it was beyond me....for now! ;)

    Oscilloscope probe question.

Oh I doubt that. I think that unless someone's been inside with a chain saw or something I'm sure if I posted a couple photos you guys would tell me how to fix it. Me carrying out those instructions could be the week point! I'll know about 4 o'clock this afternoon if I win it. :)

    Oscilloscope probe question.

I hope I win too! Or else I'll have a set of probes and no scope! :) I got a pair of the £10 100Mhz ones. I'll just stick with the one I bid for then. Should be ok...if not I can annoy you guys on how to fix it! Ha Ha! Kellys eye will know...he knows everything! :) Thank you very much for the...

    Oscilloscope probe question.

I bid for the one with the wider trace. The other one already had a bid on it and I didn't want to bid up on something I know zip about. Do you think I'd be better trying for the other one? Thanks for the help,I really know zip about oscilloscopes.
