    Washer/driers and LED lights couldn't care less what they get........ If you actually have harmonically-sensitive equipment then I can see the point but even then, 99% of any equipment will have it's own PSU with the appropriate filtering and regulation making the 'input' supply requirement...

    I'd also go with the LED device - potentially something that produced a 'sliding scale' (column of lights perhaps?). Using different colours in the column would be easily observed even at the periphery of vision.

    It could be that you have been supplied with a logarithmic track potentiometer instead of a linear track version. Can you see any identification marks, numbers, codes on the pot you are using?

    A simple buck-boost board (module) - they're all over the place on eBay etc - would be able to accept a variable input and give a preset output good enough to charge iPads etc. Bridge rectifier and smoothing cap on the input to prevent reverse voltages and add a bit of smoothing will help.
