    Can a 6v light bulb blow a 12v transformer

    Depends on the va rating of the transformer. (Power rating). That 10w light draws 1.67amps at 6volts, but current doubles to 3.3amps at 12v, and your 10w lamp is now consuming 40watts at 12volts. The lamp will not last long but it is certainly not a good idea to overload the circuit.

    I agree Cmuls, many have been scammed thinking "I must pay more for the HD model". Another important factor is the Location of the antenna. In my last house, I got excellent reception putting my antenna in the attic.

    You'r right. I know the solinoid is the coil part, but I always generically called the rest of the guts the bendix. I was referring to the contacts the solinoid engages.

    You could go into an Auto parts store and ask if they would sell you scrap bendex contacts from their starter core pile. They'd probably say help yourself but don't make a mess.

    Could also gently scrape the varnish layer off with a knife. Another avenue would be to replace the cable and resolder it inside.

    I recommend cutting outer insulation jacket back about 5 inches or so on both cables, so you can stagger the slices. Therefore they won't all be bunched together.

    Looks like a Transformer rectifier combination. I would check the Wahl website for a replacement. I would ohm out the primary side where it plugs in for continuity.     To me its silly to convert gas to electricity to power electric ovens, when you could just use gas ovens. (And I'm an electrician) The most cost effective way would to use load shedding where all the loads would not run at the same time allowing less demand and the purchase of a smaller generator.
