    Coulomb's Law in practical life!

Please explain fully how you calculated your final result. This will help us see where you might have gone wrong. If you have at all :) Oh just to help you a little further, do really think it's realistic to have a stationary charge of 1C, because that is what this formula means. Thanks Adam

    LED Push Button Dimmer

Angus although I can't disagree with Bob and Kris. It's all about what you want out of this for yourself. Adam

    LED Push Button Dimmer

Maybe something like this. Have a look at the data sheet and see if you can work out the rest of the connections. Adam

    Electronic angle finder repair

I think you right Dave. CQ make ceramic resonators. The other part I am pretty sure is a ceramic Gyro. Found something similar. Adam

    LED Push Button Dimmer

Made this little circuit for a bit of fun. I wanted it to look like a "chicken" but it didn't turn out that way :) The circuit is based around a Schmitt oscillator with a charge pump. The charge pump increases the charging voltage which has the effect of linearizing the ramp within the...

    Decreasing voltage to motor

You can also use the H Bridge as a motor break if you need to slow it down quickly. Adam

Do I need a heatsink? How big?

    Looking good Steve.

Do I need a heatsink? How big?

No you didn't say heat was dominant, it's just you said is heat our enemy? Which I took as it could be at some point. Regarding phase change, well I suppose you could say it does release heat. After all steam when it condenses releases heat, the same heat that caused it to change state in the...

Do I need a heatsink? How big?

What example can you show where heat is dominant over temperature for components? I guess you mentioned this for a reason.

    Decreasing voltage to motor

Use PWM for this. If you don't run the motor out you could have issues like increased current consumption which could damage the motor. You also reduce torque, it is better to operate a motor with full supply for a shorter amount of time. Adam

    guitar amp

Yeah go for it. I used to play guitar a while back and I also made a few valve amplifiers also. I would be interested to see how your project evolves. You never know with my limited electronics experience I might be able to help you. Adam

    DipTrace PCB software

Found a nice free PCB software easy to use and is limeted to 300 nodes for lite version. I am designing a new power supply using it. It has a very comprehensive library of parts. www.diptrace.com Adam

Solar module systems to cover your house electricity consumption ?!

In the UK a number of companies will install and supply solar pannels on south facing roofs for free. You have to sign up for 25 years rent. They get their money from the electricity companies and I know a few people that pay vertually no electric in the summer. Adam

Try searching for stacked concentric pots. I found lots of them. cheers Adam

    Ultrasonics

For 40KHz its about 40dB per 100 feet loss at 50% humidity and say 20 degrees. So you would need quite a transmitter. Thanks Adam

    capacitor replacement

I never mentioned their failure mode only that Y capacitors should be used from Live to Earth, that's all.

    capacitor replacement

Steve maybe you could have proposed a better wording for my comment instead of the comment you posted. I also found some information about X and Y capacitors. Maybe robustness is a better word but they do seem to be tested to enhanced reliability standards. Extract...

    capacitor replacement

Can I just add something minor. If the capacitor is connected from the live to earth for common mode filtering it must only be a Y type. This is because they tend to be more reliable have higher reactance due to the value of the capacitor and will limit the current to earth which otherwise could...
