    theory. ... imagine an lm317 in constant current mode using the voltage drop across the resistor to keep cc.. i've been playing around and exchanging the resistor for a transistor. .. is it even possible? (tried with no success)

    lol, i think alcohol was the reason for writing the converter class... I think the original personalities were written years back (they're not mine) i simply wrote the routines based on the text files supplied from a 3rd party yahoo client and wrote my own version in Delphi.. roll on 10 years...

    replacing just the fan and bulbs (if the bulbs are rated 110ac) but keep the led driver as it accepts both 110/240vac. . still not as straight forward as buying the 240vac version? they might offer it already?

    anyway, a 20c 10-100k pot which controls a 555's astable mode will give you a varied on/off pulse the pot will adjust the firing time, the output pin3 could be then connected to the base via a 1k resistor which can power the fan... you may need a flyback diode across the motor in reverse to...

    The fan might not be 240ac rated, but as you said you think that's not an issue... the LED driver supports 110-240ac and outputs 10v (no problem) so driving LEDs with existing setup is fine... the only concern is heating/ir edison style bulbs, if they're rated 110ac they'll need to be...

    what switch? 1amp is fine for your requirements... there should be no dimming or anything if wired correctly. .. this switch needs to be rated to handle the combined load... 0.5a or so

    no diy stick a optical grater to the front of the phone then have the camera determine the wavelength used? awwww lol but i like this technology a lot... i've always wanted a spectrometer but can't offer enough reason to the wife to spend $5,000 on one lol

    a 555 under astable to supply pwm to the fan, a pot to adjust the 555, the 555 controls the fan.. but, as stated the fan may already be pwm controlled from internal curcuutry

    i'm using 10k... but in the real world the diode requires a min amount of current to work between 5 - 9v zeners with 5k limiting resistors should be ok.. just be careful of the wattage or you'll be needing a new zener (bags of them are cheap)
