GPS NMEA, Failover Circuit upgrade attempt.

Ditto on that being a good suspect but it looks like hash noise with only the rising or falling edges being coupled to the supply rail. I would think that a .1uF across the 1uF might clean it up. On the other hand If this circuit is being prototyped on a solderless breadboard all bets are off...

    Switching leds

On the original circuit R14 is not also feeding an OpAmp as you say. It's feeding the LED input side of an OptoIsolator through Diode D8. The output side of that Opto is a JFET configured as a Source Follower. It feeds or did feed (?) the inputs of logic gates. Chris

    Automatic ranging current sensing

Ted, I don't think your reply qualifies as a hijack. Not even even remotely! It was an interesting read and a thoughtful critique.;) Chris

High side MOSFET not working @ IR2104 driver

If I understood Minder's reply (below) then I was wrong and the answer is yes. Chris

High side MOSFET not working @ IR2104 driver

Minder, you are too kind. I made a statement earlier that the supplies should not be common to each other but I was obviously in error. You didn't call me on it though. Don't be shy in doing so. I do make mistakes that seem to be increasing with age. Right now I have Hurricane Mathew heading...

High side MOSFET not working @ IR2104 driver

Evidently Alec you type faster than me too! On the other hand it's not hard to do! :) Chris

High side MOSFET not working @ IR2104 driver

Damn it! I knew someone would catch that before I posted it! I can't type as fast as Hop. :) Chris

High side MOSFET not working @ IR2104 driver

Oops! Missed this! Way too high. They should be about 100Ω. Chris

High side MOSFET not working @ IR2104 driver

Yes! It's not floating if the logic & HV supply are common to each other. Chris

    Automatic ranging current sensing

This will be answered 6 months from now. In the interim you'll have participated in countless threads and long forgotten what the question was! :p Chris

If so he's going to spend far more money in parts alone. Especially since HF gives them away free. Chris

Nick, you must be relatively young and don't deal with cantankerous old farts much. Some of us simply regard it as a rite of passage. Please don't confuse my gripes with unwillingness to help. Nick, please measure the Gate voltage of the FET that's driving the relay coil. Do this while the...

Advice on LCD display for Picaxe project.

Yes, I think you see your options correctly but I don't see the PDF page 5 you mentioned. Here are more links containing more options: http://www.picaxe.com/Search/axe133 http://www.picaxe.com/Hardware/Add-on-Modules/Budget-Serial-OLED-Module/ Chris

    Capacitor charging

Trevor, you have Horror Freight in the UK too?:D Actually I'd bet that even this Horror Freight (you get it free with any purchase) DMM has a 10MΩ input resistance. I think I have one along with all the other give away stuff I've received from them. Sh!T loads of LED flashlights! ... Torches on...

    Switching leds

This is a painful thread because our eyes can't rely on anything we see posted. Especially the schematics! I'd say this thread is driving me to drink but I really don't need an excuse to do that. Check the Gate voltage of the FET relay driver when On an OFF (from GND) and post what you...

    Switching leds

    (1) Earlier you stated that the V+ to the relay is measuring 8V. That's an oddball voltage for standard relay. Have you checked the power supply output voltage with and without load? You do realize that what appears to be the power supply... is feeble?!!! (2) What's the relay specs? Your...

    Capacitor charging

When in the DC Voltage mode Standard DMM's have a 10MegΩ input resistance. Chris Edit: I had to cut 95% of this reply because it was intended for a totally different thread! So if anyone read it and struggled to make a connection to Mark's question,....there was none.

Advice on LCD display for Picaxe project.

The only other option I found is this Firmware, which is a PIC that either Rev Education programmed or (very doubtful) is available elsewhere. I didn't read the complete description of the AXE003 but my guess it's an LCD and this PIC (Firmware) packaged as a module...

Thanks that's a whole lot better. It also clarifies what those rectangles are scattered throughout those schematics. Apparently two way jumper headers but I've never seen them drawn like that. Especially without at least one of the jumper positions connected. Going for a bike ride but AG...

Talk about loosing me? At this point I'm so damned confused I don't know what to reply. My problem is I can't make a connection from the schematic you posted, the photos you posted and the replies you posted. For instance my last post and schematic makes sense as a reply to the question you...
