OMG! Is that what's happening here? I have to admit ... That's funny!!:p Chris

Trying to make a transistor cancel another transistor

I use Tina Classic but it's not freeware. A freeware version of Tina called Tina-TI can be downloaded from the Texas Instruments website. BTW, I see your spellcheck nailed you again.... "Drowning"? :D Chris

    Capacitor charging

Mark did you read this post from Duke? Try a disc ceramic cap as he suggested. They're not hard to find rated >= 500V. They won't leak at all so it'll be a good test to see if the inverter can supply the voltage you want. By the way while posting this I took note that you have made 6 posts...

    Capacitor charging

I recognize that little transformer because they're used to drive Piezos. I have them in my two uC based bike horns. Even if yours has a greater turns ratio than mine they're wire gauge will be small. They're not intended to deliver a lot of current. Chris

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

I suspect someone has been a bad boy by not reading all of this thread before replying. Chris

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

What's the prox switch part number? It's not on your print. Chris

    Switching leds

The diode across the relay coil is there to absorb back EMF. The other one you mentioned I don't know without seeing a schematic. It'll make it much easier than figuring that out from a PCB photo which I'm too lazy to do. Chris

Ah "Compactors"! Another example of Spell Check fail? :D Chris

N Channel JFET Testing in ESR Tester

That's a primary feature. There is NO correct or incorrect connection to the tester. Any 3 pin device (that it's capable of testing) can be connected to it in any pin-out orientation. The uC analyzes the device under test and determines which device pin is connected to each of the three tester...

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

Minder, Is it possible the Hall Effect Sensor's open collector output is having trouble sinking that 10uF Cap? Chris

Craig, Yowza! No toys in there! Thanks for posting them.

Help with sensing a stopped sprocket

Craig, this is Minder's baby so this is not a reply to your question. Instead it's a request for some shop photos. I'm addicted to Machine Porn!:) Especially Lathes and Mills. If you don't want to yuck up this topic with a detour then please post them in the Members Lounge. BTW, I don't know...

Sure, just reverse the battery, and all LED polarities. Chris

Hey, it's worth a shot. Make sure you keep it wet with solder. Chris

Trying to make a transistor cancel another transistor

Here's a discrete concept you may like or not. It uses transistors in their linear mode. It should not be considered a finished circuit but does demonstrate a discrete method of lighting LEDs in a bar graph fashion. IE, when the next led lights the previous led does not go off. This better...

    Successfully unsoldering a big relay

Definitely not a toy. While they would be my choice of last resort for typical soldering jobs they lend themselves well for de-soldering jobs like this and when you need a lot of heat fast when soldering to heat sinking planes. Back when plated steel chassis were the norm a typical pencil iron...

NPN transistor as switch for LED problem

A mis-speak. I should have said "a short between the emitter and collector pins". I've seen it happen many times when max Vce is exceeded or from HV kickback. I didn't include any statements regarding the base because the transistor would be useless anyway. Chris

Trying to make a transistor cancel another transistor

Really (LM3914) guys? I went back and re-read from post 1. I then looked at David's schematic again. Remember this? Read some more of David's replies, especially this one.. I'm not going to repeat everything I said in my last post as it would appear to be pointless. This should...

Trying to make a transistor cancel another transistor

If you're more interested in learning, seeing and feeling (including failures) how a transistor works then stick with discrete circuitry. Chips are basically sh!t loads of solid state junctions (resistors too) all crammed into a black plastic thingy that looks like a multi-legged bug. You won't...

    Sony TC-WR770/870

With any luck we'll get a larger photo with the area in question circled. With 46 years to play with I think the chances are good. :p Chris
