    Most of the testers I used 90 years ago were carbon piles. And we screwed them down to 8v. 450 amps at 8v = 3.6kW Unless you cook with 3.6kW you are wasting your time. What is a transistor?

    What you need to do is add a Schmitt Trigger. Either turn the op-amp into a Schmitt Trigger or replace it with a Schmitt Trigger.

    Just use 1N4148 for the diodes if they are in a signal area or 1N4004 if they are in a power area. .

    Diodes for 3Amps

    You can't use a 3 amp diode for a load of 3 amps. It will get too hot. And the voltage drop across it will be 1.1v Use a larger diode or a bridge.

    Resistor calculation

    It does not matter where you stick the resistor. Start with a high value such as 4k7 and go down and watch the brightness increase. If you have a multi-meter, measure the current and when it reaches 20mA. STOP.
