    Beginner Question...

Bob, thanks for catching that. I've spent quite a bit of time searching USB distribution devices but have come up empty. At this point I'm liking the solenoid approach that I dismissed as crude, earlier in this thread. It may be clunky but it would keep his switch box circuit intact. Chris

    Building my own bench drill

Dave, thanks for letting me know I wasn't imagining a boogeyman that wasn't there. Miguel, welding cast iron is an exercise in futility. Though Cast Iron can be brazed. Is that photo the quill that was machined for you? I don't think you posted a photo of the broken casting. Chris

    Beginner Question...

Either the ebay model or this one from Jameco http://www.jameco.com/1/1/46715-s3-12v-12vdc-4pst-relay-miniature.html?avad=55097_cb7bd6eb&source=Avantlink will fulfill the requirement of switching 4 circuits but I do have reservations. When this thread started I had a mindset that you needed to...

    Beginner Question...

It may not be easy to find a 4 Pole relay with a 5V coil. I didn't find any on ebay or www.mpja.com where I can usually find items at a great price. 12V models are plentiful though. The coil voltage and current isn't going to be a big deal because you can power it from an inexpensive wallwart...

    Beginner Question...

My wife is watching a Netflix movie right now and I think my online pipeline sharing is giving her fits. Our broadband isn't that broad, so this will be my last post until her movie is over. Anyway, no.. You have to duplicate switching all the pins that the switch does. USB can't have more than...

    Beginner Question...

I'm assuming what you're calling an existing switches to be electromechanical relays. I don't think anyone can answer your question accurately without knowing what devices you intend to switch on and off. Chris Edit: I may have totally misinterpreted your question, which is why we speak...

Help needed on simple short circuit protection

Hello Proton and welcome to EP! I'm jumping into this discussion because Proton's post shouldn't be overlooked. It's the quintessential example of KISS! It's not a new concept at all but just because it's as old as the incandescent lamp itself doesn't make it any less effective or applicable...
