    I would give it a good clean first so that you can see if there are any burnt tracks, dry solder joints, bulged caps. etc. Then disconnect and reconnect all plugged wires to see if there are any bad/loose connections. By then you should have a pretty good idea if it's safe to switch on.

    It looks like you have downloaded the packages but not installed them. Do as shumifan50 suggested in his last post and type : cd~ and apt-get install sdcc this should install sdcc which you can then check by running sdcc by typing sdcc. if this works do the same for cc1111

    Well you could just type sdcc and see if it runs. Or click the top button (search) on the line of buttons down the LHS of your desktop and see if it's there or search for it there

    do cd/tmp/sdcc-3.6.0/ Then type ls to look at what is in the /sdcc-3.6.0 folder. Then you can see if your files were extracted there. But shumifan50's advice is much easier: sudo apt-get install sdcc follow the instructions

    The system can't find the file you are trying to tar. When you are in /tmp directory type ls (which means list) and check if your tar file is actually in the /tmp directory

    Yep, it's a nightmare. No better here in South Africa. As retired people our single highest monthly expense is medical insurance. But being without it is not an option. One big medical event without insurance and you could be a pauper. But burns my you know what to pay it.
