    Forum Upgraded!

Hi Ian, The Norton control panel has always been the pits! I looked but I have absolutely no idea how to access the log files. Malware Bytes makes it easy to find them. You probably (bold) nailed it Thanks, Chris

    Forum Upgraded!

Hi Ian, Yeah, I noticed the change when I had to re-log in today. Within seconds Norton alerted me that it blocked a Trojan trying to steal my passwords. Coincidence or is there a security hole? Chris

How do I build a Metal Detector?

That would be components that maintain their value (to a high degree) with change in temperature, humidity, altitude and sometimes physical shock. Mil Spec components are noted for these qualities. Chris

How do I build a Metal Detector?

Kris, I think user or automatic null control to compensate for the real world is a must. If I had my choice it would be user controlled. Chris

How do I build a Metal Detector?

Kris, just so you know that this post did not exist when I posted last. While it doesn't directly address my concerns it does nibble on the fringe. ;) Chris

How do I build a Metal Detector?

Guys, while I've enjoyed reading through this thread with all its cranial expertise I can't help but muse that this is a classic "Forest - Trees" analogy. I've never used a metal detector and I've never researched how they work. Yes, I've always assumed that they functioned via some form of...

detector circuit falling off too quickly

Good call Duke. I've been scratching my trying to figure how the hell an OpAmp with an fT = 15MHz could possibly find any use in the 900MHz band. Yours is a logical & feasible explanation as any. ;) Chris

detector circuit falling off too quickly

Where did you find that circuit? It looks like something you'd find on Instructables.com Chris

How does a vaporizer actually work?

" Odoriferous" - variant - "Odiferous". I think I like this word so much that I'm going to spend the rest of this day fitting it into sentences. In fact it's a good word for the "Impractical Jokers" TV series. They could use it in the episodes that challenge each other to induce strangers to...

    Shop class project

As per Electricity 101: No, you didn't remember correctly. :D Since we are a tech forum we can't let this slide..... In a parallel circuit the total current equals the sum of the currents through each branch. In a series circuit the current remains the same throughout the circuit. Chris

How do I build a Metal Detector?

I would imagine that it wasn't a big leap for someone who was previously familiar with a Cathode Follower but who invented that? Perhaps a more accurate question would be can either really be considered inventions at all? After all, the inventor of the Triode had mathematically predicted its...

    The Ultimate Transistor Amplifier

Hi Roger, I think "Heat Sink" will suffice A sinker is something you use when bottom fishing or a food that feels like one. .;) Chris

    The Ultimate Transistor Amplifier

Yeah, I've seen that package before and they don't lend themselves well to easily heat sinking. Your other option would have been a sandwich configuration. ;) Chris

Inverter That Produces a Sine Wave

Well I may be all wet here or I'm missing something,.. but since a Sine Wave inverter is required or desired why not use the DAC output? Chris

Inverter That Produces a Sine Wave

That's not an acceptable alternative to posting a schematic. It's akin to saying "That's not a capacitor in the circuit. I didn't have any resistor models so I used a cap instead". MOSFETs and BJT's have little in common. Chris

Inverter That Produces a Sine Wave

I'm not sure what you're implying about "towards 0" but sufficed to say that F, C & R all play a part in the faithful reproduction of the signal,.. along with + & - symmetry. There are other factors too, especially if the signal is a square wave or rectangular .... (not a 50/50) duty cycle...

Inverter That Produces a Sine Wave

Dave, you just had a "Senior Moment"! :D Regarding square waves....My guess will be a droopy square wave but it will swing above and below zero. ;) Chris

Extricating the Bats is only half the problem. The excrement they leave behind is the other half. Chris

Maybe I'm being picky but this is a contradiction of terms. Chris
