    Variable power supply

Have you considered PWM? It would be far more efficient. Heck, you don't even need DC to heat a wire. So a TRIAC controlled AC supply should work fine. They're simple too! ;) Chris

    The Ultimate Transistor Amplifier

Other than the fact that it's solid state I see no difference in this basic design than commonly used with tube amps dating back <1940's. It's a textbook Push-Pull amp. As Fish stated they were typically class AB. Chris

Why I want my old world back!

That's some great tips but I'll have to get a federal ID card for that. You know.. one of those 'American With Disability' cards. Should be easy though. After all they hand them out as easily as the disabled tags for handicapped parking! I've seen teens with those. They sprint across the...

Why I want my old world back!

Here's another classic example of why my old world was so much better than this one. .. Yesterday the wife and I were leaving the parking lot of a nature center that we cycle to nearly every day. As we're hooking around the rear of the parking area I see two park ranger cars entering from the...

    Where is Electronics Point based?

Harald, is there a benefit to having it based in the U.S.? Chris Edit: Never mind. It pays to read the link you posted.;)

    programming about motor..

It's been about two months (prior to your post) since ikram1991 replied. ikram1991 only asked to run a motor for a few seconds. This simple (Picaxe Basic) code will run a motor for 3 seconds after a switch is pressed and released. If the switch remains closed the motor will run continuously. He...

    Uln2003 Stepper motor controller help

Josh, the first thing you want to do is garner an understanding of the LPT and how to communicate with it. I did a search for you and was fortunate to hit on this page first. http://www.aaroncake.net/electronics/qblpt.htm Quick Basic runs in DOS. Perhaps Fish can give you some pointers on...

That's good. What's the OS on the PC? Chris

That will do fine. Do you have a protoboard? Chris

    Uln2003 Stepper motor controller help

Let us know when you receive your board. In the interim you need something to occupy your mind. Perhaps you should spend some time learning how to communicate with the printer port. Do you have a bunch of LEDs and 470 Ohm to 1KOhm resistors on hand? Chris

Lithium-ion batteries safe to play with?

I don't think that batteries that still have useful life left to give should be discarded at all. Especially if they're not "environmentally friendly". I'm not a Litho expert but I don't see why we can't provide a regulator circuit for him. Chris ..3,223 miles and still...

Are you saying that you received the board? If so is this the only info that was supplied with it? Chris

    Voltage regulator problem

Sorry for double posting but I wanted to be sure this wasn't missed, so I elected to not edit my last post. If the heater element resistance is not linear and can be plotted R vs. Temperature we can probably dispense with a Thermistor or other sensing device. We could then monitor current to...

    Voltage regulator problem

Actually no. The odds are and if you're alone in RS with the salesman you will be the only person in the store that has even the vaguest idea of what you're talking about. Steve, did you extract that from the ebay link? I didn't see it. Brian, here's a good example of why you...

    Uln2003 Stepper motor controller help

LPT is an old term for a printer port. The DB25 was used for both Serial and LPT. If it's on a PC and it's Female it's a Printer Port. If it's Male then it's a Serial Port. Most PC's dropped the DB25 for Serial Port use in favor of the DB9 many years ago. Chris

    Voltage regulator problem

Well, if everyone knew everything Electronics Point would be ... uh... pointless! :D Damn, that's a good pun! I'll just have to remember not to use it again. Moving a circuit from a Protoboard to a PC board is most easily accomplished by using Stripboard that can be purchased at Radio...
