    Op-amp or trans-impedance amplifier

    Hi guys, I'm a newbie. I'm working on an amplifier for my photodiode project. I was wondering which has better performance a general purpose op-amp with a feedback loop or a trans-impedance amplifier or is there a much better way to amplify the current? I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks
