match a cellphone with a waveguide

Hi guys :) I want to use a cellphone to test a novel antenna (which I don't want to describe). The antenna will improve the signal from a cellphone tower and feed a waveguide. Does anyone here have experience or knowledge to help me in matching the tiny antenna in the phone with such a signal...

    A new approach to seismometry?

Hi guys (especially Dave) ... not even sure this is really "off-topic" https://www.wired.com/story/how-underground-fiber-optics-spy-on-humans-moving-above/ :)

    The corona. What's the latest?

Hi guys :) big smiles, hearts, etc I'm scared. My world is looking a bit out-of-control. Its mostly got to do with social disruption in the context of current events, in turn mostly coronavirus. I'm concerned about possible major disruption to trade, so my personal response must include hedges...

    Bose Lifestyle 5 stereo fault.

Hi Guys :) I bought my Bose Lifestyle 5 a few months ago and didn't get much of a chance to use it for a while. It was in somebody else's hands while they "looked after it carefully" for me, and within an hour of very moderate usage once it had been returned to me it had failed catastrophically...

    Wanted: Reference Wireless World magazines

Hi :) What I would really like is to be able to consult old issues of Wireless World, without the impossible task of finding and collating a collection of my own. Surely there must be some library somewhere with the collection I need! If anybody knows of any way I can re-read old articles (The...

    Android

Hi everybody! :) I'm concerned about my personal privacy with my and my girlfriend's Android telephones. I would prefer to feel we weren't actually being tracked wherever we went by the agents of a foreign power, if you see what I mean. I notice that Google Maps, for instance, can read all our...

A new concept for the electric kettle

Hi People Lots of you will know that both coffee and tea are best made with water that is not actually boiling, but only hot. I will add that boiling water is not really necessary for many domestic applications except for childbirth, and that it is a waste of money to boil water unnecessarily...

Poor Mystic finds a new direction; thank you all!

Hi People :) I have started on a new direction in life and, as I leave, I want to thank you all very much for having let me participate in the discussions on this forum. I was very ill most of this year, to the point of being housebound quite a lot of the time, and having just arrived in Cairns...

    I wanna be a sock-puppet: led question!

Well, it goes like this... I want a very constant light for use in an interferometer. I had been planning to use ultraviolet led's (high resolution is very desirable) and photodiodes. While I have heard nothing averse about the (detecting) photodiodes, my sometime partner-in-discovery mentioned...

making circuit boards on a 2D table

Hi, Everybody and Robotics People in particular :) Surely you could use a 2-dimensional positioning table, with a cutting head, to cut away copper on an unetched board and make a pcb. I wonder why nobody does this? You'd get a speedy result and good definition at a low price.

    A better rat trap

Hi people :) The rat trap I got in the shop lacks sensitivity, and I think an electronic sensor/electromagnetic release could be much better. I suppose a thermistor-op amp-transistor combination could operate an electromagnet to trigger the spring release. Surely, somebody has tried this...

Hi Guys :) I include below a SPICE netlist pertaining to a filter/detector circuit. I have not used SPICE before, and am stymied by an error which prevents the simulation from running and has something to do with an op-amp. Can anyone please help me understand what is going on with this...
