Hi forum friends,
It’s not always easy or possible to open site tools (110V) to measure current by opening the circuit and putting the meter in series.
I am looking for a plug in device inline with the tool and transformer. 240V versions are readily available everywhere.
The 110V transformers are centre tapped.
Also a clamp meter is impractical as I still have to open the tool or cable to get to the single core.
Anyone got any ideas on an easy DIY inline ammeter?.

If you only need to measure current just make a short extension lead and remove the outer sleeving from a short piece in the center to expose the conductors to use a clamp meter. Perfectly safe as long as you don't damage the insulation on the conductors.

Yes, I did start doing that. But then I needed a 16A to 32A adapter and vice versa. I was hoping for an all in one inline ammeter similar to the photo I found on the WWW.

A few ideas:

• You could build your own splitter for using a clamp.
• You could buy this adapter from Lidl.
• This guy mods a cable reel.
