110 - 240V for DLP

Help!!
Hi there
I really hope someone out there can help me, I have purchased a secondhand Vitamix Pro series 500 mixer Which has a USA plug,(1380 watts) the lady whom I purchased it from told me that it could be used with a step down transformer, however most people I ask have been telling me that because it has a high wattage this will not be possible, I do not have a clue now if this will work in UK or what transformer to buy.
Apologies for being clueless in this case.

You can get step down transformers in almost any rational size, but they are not going to be light or cheap.
