555 timer question

Hi guys.
It's been a while since I have used a 555 timer and this should be really easy for you all but I kind of forgot how to use one. Question I have is, in mono state, when you trigger the timer, will it stay in a state for the time that's set up regardless of if it is re triggered or will the time restart before timing out?
Any info would be great.

The 555 does not restart its time period if another trigger pulse is received while a pulse is in progress.

You need to ensure that the trigger pulse (low pulse on pin 2) is shorter than the monostable's period. If pin 2 is still low when the monostable delay expires, this will prevent the output from returning low (until pin 2 is returned high).
