Dears,

I want to make a regulated power supply (9-25V @ 5A)

Please let me know which IC should be used for this.

(Like we how we use LM317 IC)

National Semiconductor invented the LM317 adjustable regulator. In their datasheet for it they show how to increase its output current a few different ways.

You could also try paralleling a few LM338 if you like, this way you don’t need as many parts.

You could also use a 7809 with resistors added like on a 317 for adjustment above the 9 volt mark since you do not need voltage lower than 9 VDC.

          I have a lm338, the data sheet says is can handle 5 amps.

Hi gogo,

Yes it can handle 5A but not over the entire range of 9 to 25Volts.
