I been asked to hook up an 8-bit shift register with 2 74LS95's. To connect the two should I connect the output of QD on the first chip to SW1 of the second chip?

I don't see pins called SW1 or QD, if they are the same as Ds and Q3 in this document, then I'm pretty sure you'd be on the right track.

Incidentally, the diagram and table on the page numbered 172 should make the operation pretty clear.
