hi there,

i read an article(link below) on adding an external aerial to a PC
mouse to improve its transmitting ability using a twist tie to its
front

http://lactose.blogspot.com/2007/06/give-your-mouse-tail-to-improve-its.html

but it didnt improve its range. i figured you ppl here know your
aerials so i was wondering if you could give me some ideas to try.
this is what the mouse looks like (RF board is one on the right). thx

http://www.geocities.com/ymailus/mouse.JPG (i can upload a hi res one
if anyone needs it)

i hope you dont mind that i posted here before the mouse was broken,
but i guess i am anticipating that by the end of this experiment it
will need repair.

What distance from the receiver is the mouse located?

What distance from the receiver is the mouse located?- Hide quoted text -

15ft away. in a different room. the wireless mouse in question is
designed to operate in the same desk as the receiver.

i am wondering where i should attach the antenna to the mouse.

If you can briefly explain why the receiver is in another room I might be
able to offer a solution.

its to project a computer screen onto a tv.the tv out wiring was
catered for in the wall but i had planned to use a wireless mouse to
control it.i noticed the tv out wiring serves as a sort of antenna
itself.if i hold the mouse beside the tv out wiring it works.but i
would have to operate it at floor level.

more info on mouse:i think it runs at 27Mhz. there is a little can on
the underside which has 27.045 on it. the current antenna laid on the
pcb is shaped thus

Ok here is what I would do. I would go with a wired USB mouse and a
powered hub. Each segment will allow up to 5 meters length cable for a
total of 10 and that equals around 33 feet.

The antenna starts at T4 (transistor 4) goes past C9 and C19, and then
forms a spiral loop on the PCB. No clue what's on the other side of
the board or whether there's a tuning capacitor. The solder blob near
the center of the loop, to the right of the feedthru, is possibly (not
sure) a 50 ohm tap.

Incidentally, you might want to fix the shift key on your keyboard.
