BNC DVR Setup

I'm wanting to see if I'm able to create my own DVR. User Interface to be given either through HDMI or VGA, Recognize SATA hard drives up to 4TB, and start simple with four BNC connections. 960H compatibility too. Just wanting to see if I'm able to create my own.

this would be a pretty significant project to do from start, what is your electronics abilities ?

if very limited experience, why not just use a DVR card with a computer and appropriate software
