Anyone (else) got one?

I'd been following these devices on the tube for a while and the general consensus was always positive so I recently took the plunge and got one for myself.

This was prompted by an opportunistic purchase of a heating oil tank plus 1000 litres of oil for the measly sum of £300. Considering the tank itself is worth a few hundred the oil was effectively 'free' however, taking a worst-case scenario, we can say the fuel cost me 30p/litre.

Now installed, the heater is used for 1 hour a day to pre-heat an unheated part of our home and uses only 1/4 litre!!!!

Since then I have learned that my brother (who owns a vehicle repair shop) uses one to warm the spray booth for painting purposes and swears by it.

Results so far - after two weeks of use. The fuel pump is quite noisy (clicks) but I've done nothing to mitigate this per many videos on the subject however it's not too intrusive and you 'filter it out' after a short period anyway. It delivers surprisingly large quantities of heat, quickly and with little effort - the remote on/off is a Godsend as we can flick it on from the bed!

If, as reports suggest, these can run for years without maintenance then in these times of expensive heating costs it is going to be the most cost-effective purchase I've ever made and that's inclusive of all the spare parts I bought 'just in case' - total outlay for unit plus spare glow-plug, fan unit and gaskets etc was £120.

With concerns over energy prices and actual energy supply (power cuts - we've had two this year already) I'd highly recommend anyone to purchase one of these things. Two even. And I haven't even considered using old oil or cooking oil etc. Apparently these can run on 'anything'!

If they use the "Facet" type fuel pump (looks like a transformer with an in and out fitting), you can quiet them down a bit by mounting them on resilient mounts. I have fitted several to cars this way, and it is hardly noticeable.
