Somebody here might know something I don't, but I'll mention I've seen a lot of issues like this as a result of the owner being the owner.
People put candles, and other misc personal preference commodities on top of their electronics, as if it were just another piece of furniture.
You may have drippage from something the original owner had on top of the player.
I'd scrape it out to get at the resistor. I'll mention that it's possible that semiconductor on the heat sink shorted, and THAT'S why the resistor burned-up.
It's unusual for a resistor to burn-up by itself. Something probably went bad in the circuit, resulting in higher current through the resistor.
