I'm trying to figure out the best way to create a delayed start timer. Perhaps there is one out there I can purchase, but what I'm looking for is the following:

(Similar to that which is on many dishwashers)
1. The ability to set a time delay anywhere from 1 hour to 6 hours
2. The device comes on, runs and shuts off after thirty minutes.

I'm not too familiar with what all is available to purchase, but what's the best way to go about something like this?

What are you trying to switch on? What voltage/current/wattage? My first guess would be a wall-plug timer. But, more details would help.

I'm not quite sure on the specs for voltage/current/wattage just yet, but it would be a small dc circuit. I like the idea of a wall plug timer, however I'd like it to be for DC. Is there anything smaller, say chip size, that would allow for this function? Thanks in advance!

I've just put together two of these kits to switch off some lighting after a set period (kit can be set to go as long as 24h) to stop me accidentally killing my nice SLA batteries.... I'm sure kits of this nature are available at most places, with a suitable relay, you should be able to switch anything....
