I'm looking to make a digital clock from basic ic's,logic gates and such can anybody help direct me?

Other?
Size requirements?
Mains operated or battery?
Alarm,snooze etc.?

There are so many ways to go about this,
most are not economical since you can buy such a clock for nearly nothing these days

More specifics would help. Just hours and minutes? Do you have a preference for TTL or CMOS (low power)? 7-segment LED display? Battery or line powered? How big a display?
Have you built stuff before?

There a zillion digital clock projects and schematics on the innergoogle, so you have to narrow things down if you expect any real help. For example,
CMOS or TTL chips?
LED, LCD, or Nixie display?
Seconds display?
Alarm?

do you want lap function?
is it a stopwatch, alarm clock, egg timer?
how long do you want it to run for?
