DVD disk detection error

It would help if you gave the make and model number of your device.
First thing I'd try though, is a DVD cleaning disc.

This is common, its happened to me many times, usually a clean of the lasers lens is all thats needed, it might be more involved, but i would also try that first.

I've had that problem with a CD player, too. In my case the disk slipped on the carrier thus it didn't arrive at the nominal revolutions per minute. Cleaning the carrier with a soft cotton swab and some alcohol (of the medicinal kind) helped.

Yes thats another another one that ive come across, but not as often, the rubber disk the CD sits on loses its grip, and the disk slips, you can here it when that happens, the isoprophyl alcohol removes contaminants from the rubber plate / washer, it does mean opening up the unit, so i would clean the laser lens at the same time with the alcohol and a lint free soft cloth, then if it continues its probably a component fault, or software. But rule out the obvious usually does the trick.
