This question is giving me a headache, I just dont get the right answer. Please explain how I could solve this problem!!

R = 36 OHMS
Find the current in the 36 ohms resistor.
Find the p.d. between a and b.

It is poorly drawn. You should re-draw the circuit and it will become more clear. Use the parallel and series calculations for resistors and redraw the circuit. Put the 24VDC source on the left by itself. It is easier to look at this way.

I am assuming this is a textbook question so it is drawn incorrectly as Ante pointed out, there should be "dots" to show that they are connected. However, assuming they are connected and I did my math and circuit reduction right. And assuming that p.d. stands for Potential Difference (ie Voltage)

I=0.1436775 A
V=5.89077 V

I also assume that if this is for a class, then your professor will want you to show your work... :)

I think all of the crossed lines are connections. This is how you normally see a text book question. Like I said, it is poorly drawn. Moving things around a little will make it more clear.

hey, sorry about the late reply. YES, you are right, this disagram is actually really bad. But still, the answers are correct. I realised what mistake I did too. Thanks for your help!
