I have taken apart and put back together my son's gaming system controllers
to clean them. recently, however after having bought a super nintendo
system.. (yes the antique of the lot) the direction stick isn't responsive
on the left arrow.. taking it apart I see that the plastic buttons apply
pressure on the little bubbles of a rubber pad. Each of the little bubbles
has a plastic/rubber black disk at the top of the bubble... the disk comes
down on a piece of the circuit board which.. I would like to know what I can
use to clean.

Is rubbing alcohol acceptable?

Thankyou in advance

Rubbing alcohol may leave a film... On the board itsself, use a basic
pencil eraser and gentle erase away the tarnish.

No don't use an erasor on that type of board, it'll damage the coating on
the pads. Just use warm soapy water, I scrub them with my finger under the
running tap.
