How do I run a 24VAC solenoid off of a couple of 9V's?

The solenoid valve used in that video must draw much less current than yours. That said he will be going through 9V batteries faster than sh!t through a Goose!

Thanks for posting the video because we have a much better picture of what's being designed here. I don't see how it can be classified as a rocket though. It does not employ it's own source of thrust. So it's a projectile with fins.

Yeah, I think I am just going to order the same valve that he was using because I can't do anything with the one I have now.

I would recommend you get the largest 25V capacitor you can find (say 10,000uF or more) and place it across the 18V output.

That should provide enough current to operate the valve. You don't need it open for long.

Actually, I find it surprising that your solenoid resistance would be so much lower than the one used in the video. On the other hand I'm surprised that two series 9V batteries would drive the large solenoid valve in that video anyway.

I just had a thought because it would be a shame to have to eat the cost of that valve you have. Why not use a power tool battery? Anything from 12V to 18V will certainly power your solenoid.

Those water valves have an itty-bitty solenoid in them. It doesn't actually open and close the valve. It just opens and closes a bleed hole. The pressure behind the valve does all the work.

Steve, that all makes sense. Big valve controlled by wimpy solenoid. This design should be called a Jujitsu Valve.

Yep, that is how most spud guns and and pumpkin cannons do it...

Make sure to get a 'full bore' ball valve, many of the ball valves have much smaller valve holes compared to to the pipe size, example when you use a 1" pipe the valve reduces to 1/2"... Full bore will be a 1" pass through on a 1" valve...
