How link two simple LED circuits together?

Hi Guys!

I was browsing through the schematics on this site to assist with an idea to make 6 LED's flash using a 4017 counter with an LDR (so when it's dark the LED's flash in sequence). The two circuits I found helpful were:

Knightrider lights for model cars
Dark-activated LED or Lamp Flasher

Any idea how I can change/combine these circuits to work togther
