I have a 7 bar ir lamp about 5cm|X30cm unit, its rated at 400w/230v
how would be the safest way to connect it to the mains using a plug and a inline switch, also i want it fused too.
Thanks

Hi Stuee,
Just hook-up that heat-lamp then stay away from it.
It will "cook" you and give a nasty sunburn.

You can use a 3A fuse if your socket is unfused.

I should work with a triac circuit to control it I think.

Audioguru,

BTW. I believe it is UV light not IR that gives you tan??

Hi Ante,
You are correct, UV gives a tan. But maybe burns you too.

The intense heat from a IR lamp definately will burn you, and dry paint too.

Yeah, an ordinary light dimmer will control its heat.
