Is there any analog radio receiver that prevents fading of the SW reception?

I have been using AM radio receivers for a long time but I have encountered fading many times while listening to the SW reception. However, I have noticed that the most expensive radio receivers from Tecsun, Degen, and Sony minimize fading up to certain extent. So, why does it happen? Is it something to do with the AGC or the sensitivity?

I would also like to know whether an AM radio that uses vacuum tubes instead of transistors, can have a better reception quality?

Synch detectors. But not strictly analog.

Thats a little too broad a question. Generally speaking the vacuum tube radios really got into
their own when they got mechanical or crystal filters in them to eliminate adjacent channel
interference. Added later were notch filters to suppress interference at basically audio frequen-
cies. There is a robust collector community for Hammarlund, Hallicrafters, Collins, many used
in active Amatuer radio communications.

Generally speaking semiconductor technology has given us lower noise sensitivities, and DSP
much more robust noise suppression and bandwidth limiting capabilities.

Regards, Dana.

Hi :)
If you want better reception, it's often helpful to try and improve the aerial.

Nothing, in the radio, can prevent fading as it is caused by atmospheric propagation variations
Yeh, the signal cain't be read cos it ain't there. When that happens, poor old Marconi just has to suck it up.
Sad.
