Laser module question

anyone got any idea about the resistor needed for this sucker? I am hoping to get it working of 4 AA batteries

I suspect it has an integral limiting resistor valued to operate the laser on 5V. I'm not sure that this question belongs in this sticky though.

I have used that exact module or at least a comparable (identical look and size) one in a commercial product I was contracted to make... I ran it from 5V with a 150 Ohm resistor, the datasheet the manufacture gave me said max 4.5V @ whatever mA (don't recall), even though they are sold everywhere with listed 5V ratings... I never heard back on any reported failures of said modules and that was years ago...

I would try a 220 Ohm with 4AA for starters and maybe do a few day stress test...
