hi
i need to build a circuit that has 4 momentary switches. each switch activates a relay that in turn will allow current to pass into a solenoid and activate it. upon the button press the relay must latch on until either one of the other switches is pressed. when sw4 is pressed it must unlatch any relays that are on and make both solenoids off.

i have seen many solutions for this from a pure relay setup or a flip flop ic circuit designed for source/input switching. i was also contemplating an arduino.

what advice could you give for my best way to approach this?

Please define 'best'. Cheapest, quickest, most reliable, easiest to construct, minimum components, .........?
Personally, I would discard the relays and use logic circuits and power MOSFETs to drive the solenoids.

this nor gate seems to work for two switches i just need to expand it for the other switch and power the solenoids somehow. i think this is the way i would like to go.

Would a 2 pole 4 position rotary switch do what you want?

Finder 20.24 stepper relay?
