Please imagine this: You are a “mature” woodworker with eyesight deterioration and you are ready to make a cut with your trusty jigsaw. Say instead of adding more overhead lighting you wanted a flashlight style LED bulb to be mounted to the front of the tool pointing directly at the cutline and blade.
Rather than actually mounting a flashlight you wanted an LED bulb+base mounted and wired in line with the tool’s 120v on/off switch.
So…which bulb and which base do you select? Thanks

Hello,

You could use a gu10 bulb.
These spotlights come with different light angles.

GU10 is WAY too big to mount on a hand tool.
My advice would be to crack open the jigsaw clam shell and see what space is available either side of the blade clamp and also in front of the blade pointing slightly forward.
LEDs would be ideal if you have space to mount them.
Then we can discuss powering them.

Thanks for your replies. My trusty jigsaw is a Bosch JS470E. I agree that a gu10, while bright, seems too big. I pictured a bulb/base combo nearer 1/2-3/4” in diameter at the most. If I fashioned a mount on the front of the saw I’d work around any line of sight issues it presents; but with focused light on the cutline I can move my eyes around to see that point. Thanks again. Any other “tinier” bulbs/base come to mind?

Certainly appreciate the size but I imagined 120v so I could wire it the tool’s switch; so the light would come on when the tool was activated. The battery idea requires an extra turn on the light step, and I’m all about efficiency. But there is an idea there in that it would be nice to have the cut illuminated right before the blade starts moving. See I want it all!

Don’t wire a regular LED bulb directly to 120 V on a jigsaw, it’s unsafe. Instead, use a low-voltage (12 V) LED work light with an isolated AC-DC supply, wired in parallel with the tool’s switch. Rugged LED puck or COB modules work well, are vibration-resistant, and can be aimed directly at the cut.
