Has yet to be invented? or has it..

what would it take to hook up 3 sensors of some kind that is able through the use of the other 2 sensors triangulate your position in a room?... has it been done? i was thinking 3 ultrasonic pules with a delay between each one measuring your distance or location etc..... or would something else be better?...

Sounds like indoor GPS based on ultrasonic sound.
For 2D I've seen this for detecting writimg on a whiteboard: Sensors in the corners of the whiteboard register the distance to the pen. This is translated in computer lingo so a copy of the "writing on the wall" can be displayed on the Computer.

Btw: I wouldn't want to have a dog in this room. Dogs are vey sensitive to ultrasonic sound.
