I live in a house with mediocre FM reception and a roof aerial isn't an option for me. A loudspeaker seems to work better than a ribbon aerial. I tried just a similar size of speaker cable (without the speaker) and I can get one more bar of signal strength on my FM tuner with the speaker. Could it be something about a speaker that works well as an aerial? Your thoughts please.

It was only that you had it hooked up to a piece of metal...your speaker.
I have made VHF FM dipole antennas out of mechanical
spring toys...called slinkies.
even boat anchors .
Never tried a speak her before. It would be an unbalanced Ariel antenna or a mismatched 300 Ohm's Impedance.
