I have a Moose MPI-50. It was in the house when I bought it 11 years ago. It has become unstable, the pads are intermittent and during the past 2 or 3 thunderstorms and had a power drop and the system triggered.
I have looked at the schematics and see taking it off line as: put on some ear protection, pull the leads from the battery, hit the circuit breaker, remove wires from terminal 1 and 2 (and protect) and restore power at that breaker.

Did I miss anything?

The only thing you missed was an explanation of what a Moose MPI-50 is.

Is it an alarm system?

Dummy me, yes. Here is a link to a manual with a schematic diagram.

Excellent. Now, are you trying to disconnect it entirely, or something else?
