Hi,

Issue:

I'm looking for a motor, preferably AC, with a stall torque of at least 20 Kg(cm) that runs at between (about) 10 and 30 RPM.
Do you know of any sources?

Background:

I'm building an auger to feed powder to coral in an aquarium. There will be a hopper filled with the material about five inches along the same axis as the auger (1/4 drill bit) runs parallel to the bottom of the hopper. Looking at the auger from a length-wise axis, the auger is at the bottom (within a partly open pipe of an internal diameter slightly greater than 1/4 in.). From this same vantage point, the walls of the hopper extend upward at sixty degrees relative to each other.

If I remember correctly, the volume of the hopper would be about 1,000 cm3. I doubt this matters too much.

I currently have a motor that I originally intended to use for the project. It's DC (6V), runs at 20 RPM, and has a stall torque of 4.5 Kg(cm). I'm thinking that I might need a motor with greater torque. This one should be fine if conditions are optimal, but if there is caking, I have my doubts. In actuality, I have no idea if this torque would be appropriate or not. I have seen pellet stove motors with stall torque ratings of 200 Kg(cm), so I'm thinking that this one is perhaps a little light for the job.

Pellet stove motors would be ideal, except they run too slowly (1 or 2 RPM). The problem with this is needing to use a larger auger bit (for various reasons, and with various complications). Something like an auger motor, but running at about 20 RPM would be ideal.

Thanks.
