Optical Private Branch Exchange

I am a student of Optical Engineering at the GIKI (GHULAM ISHAQ KHAN INSTITUTE OF ENGINEERING SCIENCES AND TECHNOLOGY). My final year project is based on the Optical Private Branch Exchange. Now the most important thing for me on the first stage is to get hold of the Pulse code Modulation as this will be used for the modulation of the signal.

If any body can help me on this topic or else on the whole of mine project it will be very help ful for me..

Have a look at The Link Telephone Intercom (posted as project number 13 under 'Telephone Related') this may give some clues as to the basics of telephony - it also uses a couple of opto couplers - the closest I could get to an optical PBX using off the shelf parts
