please refer to remote control of electrical appliances, i have designed many circuits for control of electrical appliances thruogh computer and remotely thruogh computer please let me know what you are looking for and i will try to help

What do you want to know? If you can write a program to turn a bit on or off on the parallel port, you can use that bit to trigger a SSR. The SSR can turn the appliance on or off.
I think you did not get much response because your question was very general.

This was coverd in a magazine called PC EXTREME issues 15/16 .
I have the software used but the diagrams are harder to do (only circuit software i poses is on linux. if you cant find the mags ill do up the circuits.
