Hi, I'm attaching image file of this peel-off paper sticker circuit (Image URL option from menu shows red X in post Preview, despite working link). What is this and what would it be used for? Thanks

Sir p1ne . . .

A spiral inductor that has its central capacitor shunting it which is dimensioned to make a specific Radio Frequency tuned circuit, that keys a security alarm in a store unless you buy its attached merchandise and they scan and burn a link inside to disable the unit.
Wanna go check it out now ?

Thanks for replying, RFID tag. Probably the coolest part for me is how the passive chip gets charged by the transmitter radio wave, to ping back data.

Your unit shown is just the much simpler passive security / anti theft tag for shoplifting deterrence.

The more sophisticated RFID tag has a micro sized I.c. included . In it's situation, the tuned loop will pick up RF energy from a scanner tool, that provides power to take the very specific data from that unit and transmit
back to the scan tool as a serial digital stream.
