Hello everybody

Do you have problems with pigeons at home? I do.
I have read about ways to repel or deter pigeons at home and there are many electronic repellers on the market, but they are out of my reach, so are out of the equation.
I thought that I could build one of those devices if it is not very complicated or requires no special components, but problem is that I don't know how to build one of them. As far as I have understood, it is an ultrasonic emitter that produces an ultrasonic wave that birds hate, so they go away. I don't want to harm the birds so this would be a perfect solution.
Does this devices really work? Has anybody build one of this devices? Which would be the frequency to repel the pigeons?
Well, any idea regarding this will be most welcomed

Thanks in advance

Miguel

I've tried the ultrasonic ones, even modifying the frequency.
My experience, not based on any scientific evidence, is that after a relatively short period of time, the pigeons get used to the sound
when they don't see an active threat.
I use a timer and a quick pulse at an audio range volume that's loud, but not enough to get the neighbors mad at me. It frightens the birds away, because it scares them and they're too afraid to stick around to look for whatever caused the noise.
I run the pulse at half hour intervals during the day, and off at night when no birds are around. They learn, apparently, that my house might be unsafe for them to roost, and generally avoid it.
Just one idea you might want to try.
People in my area tried the plastic owl statues, and the like, but they don't work for long as the birds get used to them and ignore them.
Somebody else might be able to tell you if they've had any luck with an ultrasonic device.
I used a piezo tweeter at about 50KHZ (you have to be careful at that frequency range, because a lot of piezo speakers don't
operate at that frequency, I had to search for the one I used. I don't know if wasn't loud enough to cover a wide area, or some other
reason, but it just didn't work at scaring the pigeons away.
Good luck with whatever you try.

Hi.
Non-poison solutions take some effort depending on the place invaded by the pigeons.
Impeding the birds from landing/nesting by placing needles/spikes/wires takes the strategy and danger of a ladder. Electrocution or shock treatment as with electric fencing for cattle is possible and seems to be the most effective. Just do not fall while installing. Thin strong ~1mm non-copper wire can be nearly 'invisible'
Patience and taking the task as a challenge should be the most rewarding when success finally arrives.
-I would do the high voltage wiring on key places- Works unattended at all times and no bird will start ignoring it after a while... Come back with failure stories too. Pictures help.

That chap is hilarious with his cat-friendly inventions.
His bubbly enthusiasm is what makes his videos great.
