Rockwell IC - what is it?

I have a surplus PLL pc board which has on board a Fujitsu MB1507 PLL
chip, an OP123 op amp chip, and a Rockwell chip which I am unable to
identity.

The device is a Rockwell 41404P-34HK, and appears to be in line with
the rf feed from the VCO (external to the board) the rf input pin of
the PLL chip. In this location the chip could likely be acting as a
rf preamp or signal conditioner.

Apparently Rockwell spun their semiconductor division off to Conexant
in 1998, but I can't find any info on the Conexant site.

I would appreciate any leads on this chip or a link to a datasheet.

Thanks

Hi Mike. http://www.conexant.com/ doesn't show this as a product,
but I can send you a partial copy of the old Rockwell datasheet in
a followup email.

Thanks,

Hi Win

Datasheet received with thanks.

I've got several of these PLL boards. The upper frequency rating of
the Rockwell chip of 14 GHz probably means the VCO operates well into
the microwave range.

My guess is that the chip could be a differential mode amplifier ( but
in this application operating as a single ended amplifier) lifting the
VCO level up to something suiting the PLL chip.

I'm looking to adapt the PLL for UHF amateur applications, which could
prove very interesting. It looks like the PLL operates in the
microwave region, so the filter loop constants will need some changes,
and for the UHF bands up to 2.4 GHz I might be better off replacing
this stage with an MMIC.

There are some interesting challenges ahead.

Thanks
