Want to read some clueless and scary stuff? Go here...
... and read the short thread about not having a 240VAC receptacle by Amar Sew and the reply by Allen McKinney.

I wonder if this guy is still alive?

If you happen to use outlets on the 2 different phases, that method could work.

Yeah, however it would violate the National Electric Code to do so. Plugging into an electric dryer outlet seems to be the safest bet, since those have common-trip circuit breakers with the handles tied together for each of two "hot" lines. I would also make sure the 25-foot (or longer) replacement cord was up to snuff for the job: correct gauge, correct insulation, UL approved, yada, yada, yada.

Within the same room that's highly unlikely unless it's a big a$$ room or a shop.

That's standard mains here in North America too, but the pole pig (distribution transformer on a pole outside the house) splits it into two "live" terminals and a center-tapped neutral.

And I prefer Florida to Europe, from which my ancestors escaped hundreds of years ago. Nice place to visit though... so much history there, so much art and architecture, so much variety of peoples and languages. Maybe someday we will visit Europe, if the invading hordes haven't wrecked it by the time we can afford to do so.

The same goes for Florida. Been there this summer for a week. Lots of rain though, regularly at around 2 o'clock.
You still haven't moved? Your location still shows as Dayton, Ohio.

That is what I call creativity!
Self made welder
There's a very old adage that the Lathe is the only machine that can build itself. The Gingery Lathe project is an example of this.

This video is absolutely COOL! The transformer didn't build itself but it did weld itself back together! I loved it!

We pick up a 26-foot truck at 7:00 AM on Friday, December 9, 2016. Begin 1000+ mile drive to Florida the next week.:D

Harald, I'm disappointed that you visited Florida and didn't tell me you were coming. It's a large state but if you were near Palm Beach County we could have broke beer together.

I'm truly sorry, Chris, but I was there with family in the Orlando/Kissimmee region, busy visiting parks and such.
I really would have loved to have a beer or two with you, but family comes first.
Please don't be disappointed, that we had no appointment ;).

Well Kissimmee is beyond my cycling radius. For the most part I don't travel to places I can't cycle to in one day. :)

I hope you made it to the Circle B Bar Reserve while you and the family were there. It's really worth seeing. Though no roller coasters and such. Just carnivorous critters free to roam, swim, fly and slither. :D
