Servo Drive Power Devices (Junction temp excursions)

Can anyone tell me if there is a rule of thumb for picking power
devices for a servo drive? Servo drives have a high peak current and
are cyclic by nature. This mode of operation will of course cause
junction temperatures to cycle. I'm concerned that bond wires will
fail over time.

My gut tells me to use a large IGBT to reduce delta T.

Am I on the right track, and is there any other peccadillios I should
be aware of - coming from an induction motor drive background?

Regards,
Bob
