I have a fairly new one but unsure of where I purchased it or if under warranty. Upon turning on, the digital dial shows 36 degrees F in the read mode, but it doesn't heat at all. It looks like the bottom of the station can be opened by prying, If so, what would I look for? Thanks.

Sir Dean . . . . .

VAT ! . . .you are needink und replacemink iron fer und SL-30 solderink station ?
Ve are 'chust bin receivink in und fresh 'chipmemt of 50 of der units.

Und vould you be vanting fur und left or right handed handle ????

All right . . . . . . jes' messin' with your mind . . . . . . .;)

Lets do the easy part first and just unplug the connector of the iron to the side of the station such that you then can use your "ohmmicating" instrumentation . . . . . to see just how closely your present unit comes to the data given in the illustration.
(And yes . . . . . they are using a low value of thermistor for sensing . . . to match the slower heat gain and sinking characteristics of the iron, versus the fast response time that one might be obtaining with a 5-10 K thermistor element.)

If you are lucky, repair might be as simple as just the replacement plug in iron assembly.

Colin and Edd,
Thank you both for returning my call for help. Edd, you were right on. I have the old SL- 30 that the new one replaced. I didn't even consider swapping the old iron for the new, but when I did, voila, it worked. Edd, I guess this proves the "pick the low hanging fruit first" adage. Thank you both for your time and consideration.

Has the old iron got a replaceable heating element? That's probably your issue.
