Hi all,

I’m in the middle of building a CNC router and still deciding on the right stepper motors for the job. My frame is fairly rigid, and I plan to work mostly with plywood, MDF, and occasionally aluminum.

I know NEMA 23 steppers are the common choice for hobby CNC routers, but I’ve seen some builds using NEMA 34s for extra torque and stability. My main concerns are finding the right balance between speed, torque, and avoiding excessive weight that could affect acceleration.

If you’ve built a CNC router, what stepper motor size and specs worked best for you? Did you go with standard 3 A drivers or something beefier? Any advice on matching the motor torque to the axis screw pitch would be great.

Thanks in advance!
