Hi
I’m looking for some advice and hope someone can help. I’m clearing my father in law’s house and have come across several boxes of electrical bits and bobs – I’m a carpenter by trade and have no idea what any of it is, what it’s for or if it has any value. I’m not particularly looking to make money from it, but need to clear it and don’t want to landfill anything that may be worth something to someone.

I haven’t had a thorough look, but there are several boxes of glass valves (?), some bags of capacitors or resistors (or, for all I know, unicorn teeth) and some cables and what looks like gay pride ribbon.

Is this the kind of thing someone might want (perhaps free to collect from Coventry), or shall I just chuck them in the skip?

There are also some large metal electrical things with knobs and screens (oscilloscopes?), but I forgot to take any photos, so might get back to you on them.

Thanks in advance
Neil

Welcome to maker.pro!
The first and third pics shows valves. There are some rare valves around which can fetch premium prices, but common valves have little value. Research the type markings to see if you're sitting on a fortune. I recently sold a job lot of ~80 valves for £10 via Gumtree (have you considered advertising there?).
The second pic shows capacitors. May be useful to a hobbyist for breadboarding cicuits.
If you tell us your location, someone local to you may be happy to collect items. Cost of packaging and transport probably rules out sending items any distance.

The capacitors and resistors are probably not worth much.
The valves may be of interest to a few hobbyists. You may offer them in our "For Sale / Wanted" forum.

The valves all look like 'pulls' from old TV sets - they'd have to sold 'untested' with the associated risks for value (very little). As above, the components are similarly 'old school' but may be of interest to some retro equipment repairers.

Test equipment, however, is always in demand but unless it is both working and or reasonable quality/performance (modern stuff is pretty cheap these days) then it's not going to attract much attention. Posting more pics will help us give more accurate advice though.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like it'll be worth putting them aside to at least have a better look at what there is. Or I could put them in my loft for my kids to deal with in the future :)

Old test equipment, no matter how banged-up, is valuable to someone. Many people enjoy restoring such beasts to their former glory.
