And your point??? Every FIRE ALARM manufacturer I know of provides a list
of compatible smoke detectors. The smoke detector manufacturer is
interested in selling... smoke detectors... and hopefully gets included
in that list. How does a smoke detector manufacturer determine
whether-or-not his new "little gem" of technology is going to be
compatible with say... a Mircom 300 series panel, or an Ademco Vista 20? I
somehow think the procedure involves a resubmittal (to UL) for testing
(which would also involve the panel manufacturer's engineering
department). I haven't seen Ademco publish an updated list anywhere.
Seeing as how I'm taking on the responsibility of installing a system, I'm
also responsible for ensuring that the life safety devices connected to it
are, in fact, compatible. Therefore, the panel manufacturer's list is the
one I go by.

I'll call up Honeywell later today and see if they've got an updated
compatiblity list. I do happen to like the C2W's. They are my smoke
detector of choice.

the point is how can it be on the list if the list was made before the smoke
was, duh.

if you check with the smoke manufacturer you can find their compatability
list. but you know that.

If you limit your reference to but one incomplete, outdated volume, you do
yourself and your customer a disservice.

Yeah, good luck with that.

I seem to recall you and I discussed this once before.

Yep. And I also seem to recall there's a huge disparity between
Canadian and US practices.

Panel
manufacturers test and certify their products with some, but not all,
detector brands/models. Detector manufacturers routinely test and
"list" their products for use with as many popular panels as they can.

We go by panel manufacturers and for good reason... I imagine that
there are several Chinese smoke detector manufacturers that would love
to flood the market with their cheap knock-off (read reverse engineered)
products.

You'd think that Honeywell would want their panels listed for use with
System Sensor for obvious reasons, but each manufacturing division makes
its own decisions about testing and other costs.

I believe you've hit the nail on the head...

Probably the guys at
the "Ademco" division decided to let the guys at System Sensor bear the
cost. :^)

The guy I spoke with at the "Ademco" division don't recognize the C2W as
being compatible (or UL Listed) for use with the Vista 20... In fact,
it's the first he'd heard of it... I got a "we'll look into that" in
response to my question. Go figure. I musta got one of thier "noobs".
Or maybe calls from Canada automatically route to the noob support
desk... :)

While your on the phone to Honeywell, you may like to point them to this
page on System Sensors website
http://www.systemsensor.com/html/search_all.php?s=
and then in the search box plug in each of the detectors (one at a time)
listed in the Ademco installation manual, you may start to see a
pattern after you've entered a few model numbers.

It's 2WT. I doubt anyone here would equate System Sensor products with
Chinese knockoffs. They're among the best on the market.

I'd like to see them make a 110VAC smoke alarm... I bet it'll blow the
doors off Kidde.
